Each second that passes takes Majed* closer to the moment he is sure will come.
The knock at the door.
"Pray for my detained brothers, pray for Yemen."
Majed*, Yemeni believer
The moment he will be arrested and taken into custody.
Why? Another crackdown on Christians has hit Yemen, where Majed lives. Several Christians have already been arrested, and they're currently being interrogated, tortured, and imprisoned by extremists.
Majed knows he is next. His time is coming.
"I will also be taken; there were vehicles with agents asking about me only a few days ago," he boldly shares. "Yes, it is a difficult season that we, as a church, are going through, but we are the children of the King of Kings. Jesus told us that in this world we will have troubles, but He also promised us victory in Him, and this is what keeps us, myself included, going."
Majed is afraid and anxious for the days ahead, but he is especially saddened that his friends are now in prison. He tries to comfort his friends' families and prays with them and for them … for peace, comfort and for strength.
"People I know very well are currently in pain, probably being tortured," he says. "Some are also scared, sitting in the dark prison cells. The security situation is bad. Those close to my heart are suffering. In my country, especially in this region, when someone is taken, they could vanish for months, and we might not know anything about them until they're released.
"Pray for my detained brothers, pray for Yemen," he asks. "Yemen needs light; it has been living in darkness for decades. Pray that change may happen. Pray that what is happening now will open the eyes of my dearly beloved Yemenis. May they realize that there are Christians in Yemen who believe in Jesus. May our struggles push them to believe in Him."
Majed is preparing himself for the day when the authorities will grab him. "I know it's coming," he says. "In the meantime, I'm trying to memorize as many Bible passages and verses as possible. I want to be a walking Bible, so that wherever I'm taken, I can share about Jesus. May we be mirrors of our Savior in the way we speak and act."
Majed and his church family want to be salt and light to their community. "God has called us to be salt and light; this is what I pray I can be," he says. "May God use me. Just like He was with Paul and Silas in prison in Philippi, I know that He will be with me. And if He is with me, who can be against me?"
Majed's bold faith and strength come from his deep roots and trust in his Lord. "They can kill the body, yes, but I pray that the ministry does not stop," he says. "We need Yemen to be for Christ. May He reign over my country."
Although Majed could flee the country for a safer place, he refuses to abandon his home, friends, and family in Christ. "I could escape," he says, "but others can't. My vision is to change Yemen, and I can't do that from abroad. If we all leave, who will stay and continue? I can't and won't leave the people I love behind."
Majed is grateful for his brothers and sisters who pray and encourage him and other Yemeni believers in this difficult time. He thanks God for the global Body of Christ and asks that we continue to remember them all in our prayers.
"Yes, the security situation is bad," he shares. "May God intervene, in the midst of the problems and pain, and may He comfort us. Even when we are caught, we pray the work will continue. Ask God to raise up others who will continue sharing His light with the Yemeni people, those living in the dark. They deserve to know Him."
