After Ngoc's* husband tried to take her life, the 63-year-old grandmother from Vietnam's Dao minority fled for her safety—and the safety of her daughter and granddaughter. That's when Pastor Nhan*, a local church leader and Open Doors partner, offered the family a temporary place to live, food and clothes. Nhan also helped them study the Bible and navigate their new life together.
When Zakie* almost lost her husband in Afghanistan, she fled with her family to Central Asia. Your support is reaching Zakie—and your love and prayers help her minister to other refugees. Open Doors partners in Central Asia are supporting Zakie's ministry among Afghan women. "I do discipleship with women, because there are many who have experienced trauma," Zakie says. "I share the Word of God and the love of God with them."
"For me, Jesus is Lord, Savior and Healer. Jesus is everything to me."
Zakie*, Afghani believer
When Beatriz* became a missionary in Mexico's so-called "Circle of Silence" (where less than 2% of the population is Christian), she never imagined persecution would strike so fast. Still, she continued her ministry to women. In 2024, Beatriz partnered with Open Doors. Your support helps pay the rent and maintain the space where they meet regularly for Bible study. Faith is growing.
Ngoc, Zakie and Beatriz are only three of thousands of examples of how God is using your prayers and support to restore and empower persecuted women—believers who are following the Great Commission where they live despite their specific challenges:
Ngoc has lost her home, her possessions and her husband and sons because in 2024 she trusted Jesus. Her husband's violence worsened after her conversion, including attempts to strangle her. A year later, she was forced out of her home and had to move to another village.
Perceived only as an "infidel," Zakie endured shame, insults and ostracism by both her family and community in Afghanistan. But the gun attack on her husband's life for his faith compelled her and her family to flee the Taliban and leave their homeland. "That same night, we fled from Afghanistan," she says.
Beatriz's 2-year-old daughter almost died at the hands of an angry neighbor attempting to poison the family dog.
Persecutors tried to erase Ngoc, Zakie and Beatriz. Faced with such adversity, many people might think twice about carrying on. Instead, these women, bolstered by your support and encouragement, are part of the new story of hope that God is writing.
Thanks to your prayers and kind gifts, persecuted women are receiving training, literature and practical help. Your support restores these women, equipping and empowering them to fulfil their God-given potential. And through their stories, God is multiplying His Church.
"God showed me that my own wounds could bring healing to others," says Beatriz. "Here, many women feel worthless or unloved. Some are abused or abandoned. So, I built friendships with women and told them my testimony. Little by little, God started restoring their lives."
Ngoc is discipling her family. She continues to care for her granddaughter, taking her to school each day, while Mien lives and works in another area. Ngoc calls Mien and her granddaughter "her companions on this journey." Seeing her mother's witness, Ngoc's daughter also accepted Christ, even as she faced similar opposition. And Ngoc is now sharing God's Word with her granddaughter.
Everything that Ngoc and her family have received to restart their lives comes through the support and prayers from Open Doors supporters like you. "Thank God for your help to Ngoc and the two girls, for providing them with food and clothes," Pastor Nhan says. "It has at least helped them in the first few months to rebuild their lives. Now, they have a small house of their own."
Open Doors' vision is to ensure that every persecuted woman is seen, valued and empowered to reach her God-given potential.
Your gifts and prayers are helping more women like these believers reach others. Your support is teaching our Christian sisters about their value and identity, providing emergency relief where needed and training women in job-related skills so they can earn an income.
"For me, Jesus is Lord, Savior and Healer. Jesus is everything to me," says Zakie. "What gives me hope is that I have found the living God, and that the living God has taken a place in my heart and that I have an eternal life."
And through your support, God is using restored women like Zakie to share that hopeful message and truth with many other women who need to know they are seen and loved.
